Banking and card security codes explained

Some payment methods require codes that identify your bank account or payment card.

The details you need depend on your registered location and the payment method you use.

What is a CVV?

A CVV is the security code on your payment card. It adds an extra layer of protection when you make a card deposit.

For most Visa and Mastercard cards, the CVV is the three-digit number printed on the back of the card near the signature panel.

It may also be called:

  • CSC

  • CVN

  • CV2

  • CVV2

You may be asked to enter your CVV each time you make a card deposit because AlphiBet does not store this security code.

Never share your CVV with anyone.

Banking details for customers outside Canada

Customers outside Canada may need to provide a SWIFT/BIC code or IBAN when withdrawing by international bank transfer.

The exact information required depends on the country and bank account used.

What is a SWIFT or BIC code?

A SWIFT code identifies a bank when money is transferred internationally.

It may also be called a:

  • BIC

  • Bank Identifier Code

  • SWIFT/BIC code

SWIFT and BIC refer to the same code. A SWIFT/BIC code usually contains 8 or 11 characters.

What is an IBAN?

An IBAN, or International Bank Account Number, identifies a specific bank account when money is transferred between countries.

An IBAN can contain up to 34 letters and numbers and normally begins with a two-letter country code.

Not every country uses IBANs. The banking details requested during a withdrawal will depend on the location of your bank account.

Where can I find my IBAN or SWIFT/BIC code?

You can usually find your IBAN and SWIFT/BIC code in:

  • Your online or mobile banking account

  • A bank statement

  • Official correspondence from your bank

The location of these details may vary depending on your bank. The example below shows where an IBAN and SWIFT/BIC may appear on a bank statement.

The image is a fictitious example. Your bank statement or online banking account may use a different layout.

Always check your banking details carefully before submitting a withdrawal. Incorrect information may cause delays or a failed payment.

If you are unsure which details to provide, contact your bank. AlphiBet cannot confirm your bank account codes for you.
